My Bollywood Bride (2007)

1h 35mins| Comedy, Drama, Romance | 22nd March 2007

A cross-cultural romantic comedy based on a true storey about a fish out of water. The premise's realism, combined with a winning combination of a commercial script adaptation, talented filmmakers, and a diverse cast, resulted in a strong international film that appeals to a broad audience. My Bollywood Bride is about Alex, a copywriter who dreams of one day becoming an adventure author, who meets and falls in love with Indian beauty Reena while on vacation in California. Reena returns home without saying goodbye, torn between her increasing feelings for Alex and her Indian family's beliefs and responsibilities. Disturbed by the turn of events, Alex decides to accompany her to Mumbai in order to reclaim her. The problem is, Alex is completely out of his element on the subcontinent, which is exacerbated by the fact that Reena has kept something really interesting about herself hidden from him (Reena is India's Julia Roberts)! Alex may have a chance to win Reena's heart with the aid of a rambunctious rickshaw driver and some of her colleagues. Bobby, a rising Bollywood star who has forgotten his origins and begun to believe his own press, is the subject of a parallel love tale. He seeks to support Reena by taking Alex under his wing as a close friend. His life, however, is turned upside down when he runs into Alisha, his childhood sweetheart, whom he once left behind after a dance competition in order to win a Bollywood job. Bobby learns what is really important in life through Alisha, who has a lot of personality but is still down to earth. MY BOLLYWOOD BRIDE follows these four people on their path to self-actualization as they make the transition from the television to the real world. Both love stories build to a wedding and a massive dance television show as their climax. MY BOLLYWOOD BRIDE is filmed in English with minimal Hindi dialogue and is peppered with social commentary, comedy, and a heartbreaking finale.
